RSpace was awarded the prize for best RDM software solution at the annual NFDI4Ing conference which took place between October 26th and 27th, 2022. Rory Macneil and Rob Day from the RSpace team presented and gave a demonstration of the RSpace electronic research notebook and sample management platform, facing off against three other nominees to win the award!

Rory Macneil, CEO of ResearchSpace, commented, “This is great validation and recognition of the work we've all put into designing, building, and presenting RSpace. I’m proud of the team and excited at how the research community is showing an interest and getting involved in the transformation of research, with a growing emphasis on defining the next-generation tools and services needed for this vital change!”

NFDI4Ing brings together the engineering and research data communities with the aim of both advancing and unifying international (research) data management and fostering exchange. The conference featured discussions on open issues and future challenges on topics such as terminologies, metadata, ontologies, repositories and much more! The consortium represents engineers from all walks of the profession and offers a unique method-oriented and user-centred approach in order to make engineering research data FAIR – findable, accessible, interoperable, and re-usable. In addition, the conference offered opportunities for networking and community engagement.

RSpace Transitions to Open-Source Chemistry Tools

Open source

RSpace has transitioned to open-source chemistry tools in version 1.108, replacing Marvin with Ketcher for molecule rendering and integrating OpenBabel and Indigo for backend chemistry data management, ensuring full functionality and backward compatibility for users. This change aligns with RSpace's commitment to open-source principles, enabling more flexible development and potential community contributions to chemistry functionality. Users will experience a seamless update with all existing features preserved, including ChemDraw support and existing chemical structure compatibility. The ResearchSpace team is looking forward to expanding chemistry tools, with potential future improvements like advanced chemical calculations, database integrations, and enhanced data export capabilities. Customers can find the new tools active immediately in the latest release, with the team welcoming user feedback and suggestions for future developments.
