Open Position: FullStack Java/JavaScript Developer

ResearchSpace is looking for a full-time Java / JavaScript developer to enhance the product with new features, improvements and integrations with 3rd party APIs. Strong Java skills are essential, but we’re also looking for competence coding JavaScript in a browser environment. Our RSpace Electronic Lab Notebook is used by academic and commercial scientists to securely store, share and access their research data, prior experience in industry or academic contexts is a plus.

ResearchSpace is a small, globally-dispersed, but tightly-knit team. You can expect minimal bureaucracy, autonomy in organizing your working day, and the code you write to have a rapid and visible benefit to our users. You may be writing new Java/Spring code, tuning a database query in Hibernate, designing basic UI, or clarifying requirements with stakeholders – flexibility is vital.

Essential skills

  • Strong development skills in Java (8/11), including JUnit testing
  • Java frameworks: Spring5 MVC, Hibernate 5
  • Expertise with HTTP protocols, REST APIs and Java webapp development
  • Experience working as part of a development team on a substantial shared project
  • Demonstrable awareness of orthogonal skills such as secure coding, performance
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Javascript language competency

Good to have

  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for keeping up to date with the latest developments in the Java and wider software ecosystem/li>
  • Fast learner and willing to learn new skills and tools
  • Experience working with full-stack web applications
  • Experience in life-science research or bio/chemo-informatics
  • An interest in research data management
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with React JS library
